CCD – Religious Education

CCD is held on Sundays 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at St. Mary’s of Kickapoo. Classes are held in the school. All parents are invited to enjoy community, coffee, and donuts in the parish hall during our CCD classes. We also provide the opportunity for monthly adult faith formation on various topics with guest speakers!

Parents are a child’s first and primary catechist. It is the mission of our parish’s religious education program to assist you as parents/guardians to nurture and foster growth in the Catholic faith of your children. This is accomplished with help from Catechists/volunteers of our Parish who give of their time and talents.

Through our religious education program, children prepare for, and encounter the beauty of, the sacraments of Reconciliation, Holy Communion, and Confirmation.

Please contact the Director of Religious Education at religious.ed@stmaryskickapoo.org, or the parish office at (309) 691-2030 with any questions.

Below is a digital and physical version of the 2026-2027 CCD Registration Form. Parents only need to fill out one of the two, it is merely preference. Physical Registration forms can be turned in to the DRE or parish office.

The Sacrament of First Reconciliation occurs in the winter. The first main part of our second grade religious education class involves preparation to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

“The whole power of the Sacrament of Penance consists in restoring us to God’s grace and joining us with him in an intimate friendship.” CCC 1468

Reconciliation is much more than reflecting on all the things we have done wrong and bringing them to a priest in Confession. Reconciliation is about having a relationship and restoring our relationship with Jesus!

The Sacrament of First Holy Communion is the first Sunday in May. The second main part of our second grade religious education class involves preparation to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

The Eucharist is the most important Sacrament in the Catholic Church. Our hope is to help your child know that Mass is not just, “sit down, be quiet, and watch.” Our hearts have been made to worship. Your child has a special heart and worship they give the Father is unique and unrepeatable. God is pleased when they are present before Him at Mass!

The sacrament of Confirmation is every year in the Spring. Our 8th grade students prepare for this Sacrament with Sunday classes, a retreat, and completing 30 service hours.

Confirmation is the sacrament of initiation in which a baptized person receives special gifts of the Holy Spirit and is strengthened in grace. Confirmation compliments baptism by sealing and strengthening the believer to live as a child of God, through the power of the Holy Spirit.
